ROLLER SHADES FOR EXTERIOR USE

Installation Instructions

Do Not Use During High Wind Conditions

1. When possible install the shade under an eve to reduce its exposure to weather.

2. Follow Clutch /Chain Installation Instructions which can be found on the following link :

http://www.northsolarscreen.com/assets/Install_clutch.pdf

3. Operate the shade fully up and down to confirm that it is rolling correctly. If it is rolling to one side please follow our directions for Correcting the Shade Roll which can be found on the following link under Question 8.

http://www.northsolarscreen.com/html/faq.shtml

4. Limit Stops: These are installed on the chain to prevent the shade from rolling too high or too low. When the shades are fully down there must be at least 10 inches of material remaining on the roller. Note the chain side that moves up as the chain is lowered. Roll the shade to its bottom position and install the Limit Stop slightly below the Clutch (that houses the chain.) Raise the shade fully up. The chain joiner link will probably stop the shade from rolling too high. If not install the 2nd limit stop.

5. Install the Chain Tension Device to reduce potential hazards. Locate the Tension Device on a firm surface equal to the bottom of the chain loop.

  • Hold the Tension Device upright so the warning tag hangs directly beneath it
  • Secure it with a single screw. The Chain must be straight and taut but still operate

6. Tie Downs: The shade bottom is finished with an external aluminum bottom bar with two or three holes. Lower the shade to its bottom point. Be sure the Limit Stop is in place.

Bungee Cords work quite well because they are a flexible hold down. Hook the Bungee Cord through one of the pre-drilled holes. If the hook is too large place a plastic tie into each hole and tighten leaving enough room to hook the Bungee Cord. The Bungee Cord must provide light tension. An excessive pull will put a strain on the shade roller mounts.
